As early as 1948 the idea to found an English Language School was brought forward for the first time. So, in 1950 the Lovetch Foreign Language College was opened up. At the beginning the English Department had two classes. In June 1955 the English Department moved to Sofia and in 1958 it got the status of a separate educational establishment officially called English Language School, thus becoming the first language school specialized in English. In 1960 the school moved into its present premises--60 Dondoukov Blvd., Sofia.
For years now the First English Language School has been considered and still is one of the most prestigious high schools in Bulgaria. Our graduates enjoy brilliant professional and social careers. Over 90% of the students continue their education at Bulgarian and foreign universities. Since 1987 many of our students have applied successfully to world-known establishments in Europe and U.S., such as: Cambridge, Oxford, London U., American University in Paris, Stanford U., Pomona C., MIT, Caltech, Columbia U., Wabash C., Harvard U., Wellesley C., Cornell C., Austin C., Georgetown U., Vassar C., Dartmouth C., Trinity C., Colby C., and so on. Some of them are already doing their graduate studies. They rank among the best. Traditionally, many graduates of our school on finishing their university education come back to teach here; out of 55 teachers at the moment, 15 have graduated from the First English Language School. | INDEX | CURRICULUM | HISTORY | STUDENTS | ALUMNI | LINKS | LET'S TALK SCHOOL | |
